Commemoration of the Armistice of the First World War
Commemorative ceremonies took place this year at the Residence of France in Yaoundé and at the General Consulate of France in Douala.
In Douala, it was chaired by the General Consul of France, Mr. Joël Renou, who was accompanied by the General Secretary of the Governor Services of Littoral Region, Mr. Ludovic Etienne Ngbwa, with whom he laid a wreath at the foot of the Colors of Cameroon and France.
In Yaounde, it was co-chaired by Mr. Joseph Beti Assomo, Minister Delegate to the Presidency of the Republic and the Ambassador of France to Cameroon, HE Mr. Gilles Thibault. The Secretary of State for Defense, in charge of the Gendarmerie, as well as the President and the Vice-President of the parliamentary friendship group Cameroon / France also attended the ceremony.
After a solemn tribute to the fighters of the First World War, the ceremonies began with the awarding of honorary honors to 6 men and women in uniform, French and Cameroonians, who by their merit and bravery have done honor to their homeland and Their uniforms.
The pupils of the French schools Fustel de Coulanges and Dominique Savio also paid tribute to the heroes of the Great War by moving readings as well as by several songs celebrating peace.
In the framework of the centenary of the Great War, you can discover or rediscover the work of the students of the French school Dominique Savio on the Battle of Cameroon, which recalls the living conditions of the soldiers and draws a moving portrait of the country, 100 years ago.
